We offer a relaxed service that will make you feel like part of the family while you unwind and explore the local area. Don’t worry, we understand that dogs are part of many families too.
We are supported by a small team of staff, drawn from the local community, who share our commitment to providing you with an experience to remember for all the right reasons.
Our comfortable accommodation is designed to suit everyone’s needs. You don’t need to take our word for it; have a look at the pictures of our rooms below.
While you’re with us it’s worth taking the time to enjoy one of our Cask Marque ales or a meal, freshly prepared from the best ingredients Wensleydale has to offer.
..and here’s what our visitors think
We stayed in October because we wanted to walk in the area. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were outstanding! The room was spotless and spacious and the meals were home cooked using fresh produce. There is a great selections of beer and wine and a roaring log fire. What more could you ask for!
We stopped in this pub for a birthday meal. The staff were welcoming and really friendly, the pub was lovely and warm with an open fire and lovely atmosphere…Landlady gave us some brilliant local knowledge for our trip and made sure that we felt comfortable and were satisfied at all time, Fantastic place, will be returning for sure!
A great place to stay, our room was huge, excellent value for money located right on the high street, perfect for people watching! The staff were so warm and welcoming and the breakfast is epic with plenty available for vegetarians and in the cosy ‘snug’ part of the Inn downstairs. Perfect location for walking the Dales with your dogs.
The Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales
The Board is situated in the centre of the market town of Hawes in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Whether you’re here to challenge yourself with outdoor activities, experience the local culture or simply relax and enjoy a change of pace there’s something here for you to explore.
Quality food and drink
All our suppliers are local, are known to us on a first name basis and can often be seen on the other side of the bar enjoying our cask ale selection and engaging in hearty banter. Our meat is supplied by JW Cockett & Son family butcher, vegetables by local grocers The Good Life and furnishings and electrical items from JR Iveson. All are within the town and we are happy to point you in their direction if you want to take home anything you have particularly enjoyed.
We specialise in good quality, hearty home-made pub food. Our customers particularly enjoy our Steak and Black Sheep Ale Pie and our build your own ‘Board Burger’ menu. The standard menu can be adapted to accommodate most tastes working on the principle of ‘If we’ve got it, you can have it’.
We do not believe in the overuse of the microwave, preferring to cook to order from first principles every time. This allows us to create and develop flavours to provide you with an authentic experience of Yorkshire cooking.
We believe in a traditional pint in a traditional pub. We pride ourselves on the quality of our cask ales and maintain the highest standards in our cellar. We have been awarded Cask Marque accreditation for our ale which have been assessed for temperature, appearance, aroma and taste. In order to provide the best beer for you we maintain strong links with local brewers and can thoroughly recommend the Black Sheep Brewery tour as an excursion for those who want a closer encounter.

A true family business
Ann has been in the licensed trade for 10 years. She runs the bar and keeps the beer at its best with a little help from her dad as barrel shifter. She selects our range of guest ales and has gained the Cask Marque for her commitment to quality.
The bar is open daily from noon until midnight.
Jane runs the kitchen. Formerly a teacher, she now indulges her passion for food by cooking and inventing recipes for your delight and delectation. She uses good quality local ingredients to give you a genuine taste of the Dales.
